New Movies to Watch This November

There's lots of new movies out streaming right now, and a few gems that one can catch in the theaters. In this episode Jim and Teal do a bunch of capsule reviews of the following films: Weird: The Al Yankovich Story, Causeway, Don't Worry Darling, Decision to Leave, Banshees of Inisherin, Amsterdam, and Soft & Quiet.

 

That's a lot of movies! And there were so many that Jim and Teal ran out of time to talk about the movie they really wanted to talk about, Tar. They recorded it, but to give you, the listener, the full scoop, Jim and Teal opted to create a second episode which will include their entire Tar conversation. So, look for that episode in about a week or less. But for now, there are a whole heck of a lot of things you can watch during your Thanksgiving holiday.

2022: The Year of Horror

Halloween Ends, and so does Jim and Teal's month-long binge of horror movies. From the Criterion Channel's 80s collection to new horror fare like Barbarian, Pearl, and Halloween Ends, there is a lot of ground to cover. 

Jim and Teal note that 2022 is turning out to be a banner year for the horror genre with a lot of well-received, both with critics and box office, films like Barbarian and Smile, and rebooted franchises such as Hellraiser and Halloween. 

This episode packs in as many films not covered in the last episode of everything Jim and Teal watched in October.

A look at Criterion Channel’s 80s Horror Collection

That's right, it's horror month. October is a great time to catch up on horror movies, and that's exactly what Jim and Teal did. Using the Criterion Channel's 30-film 80s horror film series as their guide, Jim and Teal set out to see some horror flicks that eluded them over the years. 

The Criterion Channel's list features some real obscurities of titles Jim and Teal never heard of before. Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case, Brain Damage, Frankenhooker) may have become a new favorite of theirs.

And the collection provided opportunities for J&T to take several side trips to other horror films.

 

A spooky time should be had by all when you listen to this episode.

Waiting for Godard

The legendary filmic miscreant, Jean-Luc Godard, gets his due on Stuff We've Seen. Jim and Teal went to work, and saw a whole slew of Godard's movies. Lots of classics, and a few little-seen gems thrown into the mix. Get your Gitanes ready, head to a local cafe, and prepare to dive into a the strange cinematic world of Jean-Luc Godard.

Jim and Teal bring you a whole slew of movies for your young film enthusiast. There are a bunch of films that they loved as teenagers, and they think your teen may get value from them as well. Lots of films to tackle, so buckle up, and enjoy!

Jim and Teal both have kids in high school now, and it's time to re-think what films they think their eldest children should check out. Lots of great recommendations on this episode. So many, in fact, they'll be getting back on the mic next week for a second installment. Enjoy!

Stuff We’ve Seen is Back in Action

The Movie Morlock will always have a special place in our hearts, but it just wasn't the same without the dynamic duo of Jim and Teal. We are pleased to announce a brand new season of Stuff We've Seen. On our first episode back we play a bit of catch up to talk about some of the Stuff We've Seen over the past few months.

We hope to make our reboot a bi-monthly occasion. Same fun show, but hopefully with realistic recording schedules. Get ready all you film compeltionists out there: the original is back. Stuff We've Seen returns now!

There’s a lot of Things to Stream Right Now

Let the Movie Morlock be your guide to a bunch of different shows to stream on your television sets right now. Catch up on shows like The Leftovers or Watchmen. Take in some new fare such as Tokyo Vice or Winning Time. Watch the final installments of Ozark and Better Call Saul. So, much great content is available to stream right now.

In addition, The Morlock talks about several films now in theaters, and coming to streaming soon that you'll want on your radar screen. From A24's horror throw-back, X, to the fantastic Everything Everywhere All at Once, if you are looking to head back to the theaters there are some films that make the trip worth while.

Paolo Sorrentino and The Hand of God

Al Fraser joins The Movie Morlock to discuss several films by acclaimed Italian director, Paolo Sorrentino, including his Academy Award nominated film, The Hand of God.

Al and The Morlock also talk about other Sorrention films, including The Great Beauty, and his cult film, This Must be the Place.

What else? Al saw Licorice Pizza, and it brought a twinge of nostalgia to his life growing up in Southern California in the 70s and 80s.

F the Academy. Teal and the Morlock Critique Poor Oscar Decision-Making

The Movie Morlock is back with his old pal, Teal to unleash a can of whoopass on the Academy. With Oscar ratings down the network that hosts the awards show, ABC, made some demands to remove eight categories from the main show. The Morlock and Teal discuss why this is a terrible decision.

Also on this episode, the Morlock saw The Batman. Was he fan? Listen and find out.
